0930 After breakfast and getting packed, we spent a few minutes checking out some of the shops around the town. I think we'll wait until the end of the trip to buy things, though.

1015 On the road again, headed further North

1054 A view of Loch Assynt and the ruins of Castle Aardvreck. Also, a few Scottish ponies standing by the road.

1115 Kyleska Bridge across Loch Assynt. This Sea Loch has history in WWII training.

1152 Along the A838 past Rhiconoch to Durness

1210 Outside Durness, on the North Coast

1223 We arrived at the TIC - along a beautiful coastline. Nothing but ice water as far as you can see... it is surprisingly green here despite the cold weather.

1300 We ate lunch at the Sango Sands Oasis, a nice enough place for the middle of nowhere.

1400 Toward Whiten Head and across the Mouth of Loch Eribol, known for its deep waters. It was used to harbor submarines during WWII and possibly later.

1430 An islet in Loch Eribol... it looks like there could have been a military installation here.

1445 Moorland along the A838 past Eribol

1530 A836 past Loch Loyal

1616 We make a stop in Lairg on the A836 for some shortbread and Lilt, which is a citrus soft drink bottled by the Coca Cola Co.

1706 The scenery has quickly turned green, lush, and fertile. At Bonar Bridge we noticed this dramatically in the River Valley. We turned onto the A9 towards Inverness and the Donrach Firth.

1730 Out over the Cromarty Firth past the bridge over it. Close to Inverness now.

1800 We enjoyed an absolutely wild drive in Inverness trying to find our way around. We haven't really had any trouble until now. We had planned to stay the evening here, but we are so frustrated I think we'll head down the road and try to get a room on Loch Ness, our first stop tomorrow.

1900 After a nice drive alongside Loch Ness, we check into a room at the Drumnadrochit Hotel. Time to get ready for dinner.
