We found out this morning we're going to have to get out of the hotel this morning. They're all booked up for Saturday night. So we drive across town and find an even better, more personal hotel. It's a bit further from the town center, but the host & hostess are very nice and the room is very comfortable.

Edinburgh has a large ridge of volcanic rock in its center on which the castle and a few other structures are built.

We hadn't spotted any thistles during our touring, so I decided to take advantage of a local vendor's display.

The streets here can be confusing, at times, you think you're walking along on the ground, when you come upon an overlook like this one, and you realize there is another street running beneath you!

This is a park just down the street from Edinburgh University. We got lost and wound up here, but it we hadn't we wouldn't have gotten to see the university ->

Along the main street leading up to the castle... of course our trip wouldn't have been complete without some guy dressed up like William Wallace Braveheart... blue & white face, kilt, and claymoore. I didn't feel like taking his picture though, so you'll just have to imagine.

We didn't take many shots at Edinburgh Castle... it was much more busy with other, more obnoxious tourists, and we were pooped to tell the truth. So we bought a guide book and toured around... it really is magnificent and I'm glad we saw it. In stature it is very similar to Stirling Castle, though even bigger.

After touring the castle, we walked back down High Street to shop for some souvenirs. Along the way we happened upon a wedding just breaking up... the bride and groom stepped into this fancy car and sped along past us. We convinced ourselves it must have been someone important to have a wedding down in this part of town.

I believe this is the Sir Walter Scott monument in downtown Edinburgh, just off Princes Street, which parallels High Street and also has some good shopping.
