From the turboprop on the way to Lihue airport
Stumpy, our pet pigeon on our hotel balcony.
The room at the ResortQuest Islander on the Beach was really very nice, especially for the price. I highly recommend this place.
The beach at the hotel isn't the greatest, but there is good service and at least some sand. Kauai's better beaches are the public ones.
Kauai really does have bad traffic... maybe they just can't read the signs?

Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge

Just more chickens in the parking lot

Traveling to Kipu Falls

The overlook to Opaeka'a Falls and the Wailua River

Po'ipu
With limited time, some places you just have to pass through. Po'ipu is more of a beach place, so we passed.

Kalalau Trail - Na Pali coast

Some signs are more official than others, but all seem to not want you in the water or even near it really.

In the middle of the photo are little baby frogs
Lilikoi fruit and guava line the trail, the smell is very memorable

Kayak the Wailua and hike to waterfall

After kayaking about 3.5 miles on the Wailua River, we park and hit the trail to the waterfall
St Andrews Cross spider, maybe
Chickens! Everywhere!

Waimea Canyon

Waimea - The Grand Canyon of the Pacific. See that waterfall on the left? Keep reading...

Panoramas of Waimea Canyon
We left this main road to find a hiking trail. What's the power for? There's a military installation of some kind here.
This 4WD road cuts some time off our hike, it's a little rough in places but very accessible.
You can't ever get away from the helicopters on Kauai

This section is a little exposed, but very doable for anyone.

The far point of our hike, a lush garden just above the Waipo'o waterfall.
Now, here we are at the top of Waipo'o waterfall. It drops 800 feet.
Bad photo (very dark) but you can see Niihau Island in the distance.
