The road to Hana

The road to Hana is very slow, very windy, and very pretty. We visited in the dry season, during the rainy season there are many waterfalls.

The Waikamoi nature trail

Keanae Arboretum is path through specimens of many interesting trees and plants. Bring your bug spray or be eaten alive!

This pennisula is bare volcanic rock on the edges, creating spectacular wave action
Mmmmmm, delicious fruit smoothies and banana bread!

Some young guys swimming in the cave pool. Probably bad luck or something.
A unique tunnel through the brambles

The beach in Hana, someone brought their horse
We needed to fill up before continuing around the south side of the island. Most people go back along the windy Hana road because the contiuation road is rough and discouraged but pretty fun actually because you get away from the traffic and the bends.
Wailua Falls, 100 ft

The pools at Oheo Gulch

The road continues around the south side of Maui, but rough!
The wind picked up as evening set in
Kaho'olawe island and the Molokini crater from Maui's southern tip before sunset

The Maui Ocean Center

Maui Ocean Center is the largest tropical aquarium in the US. A unique feature is glass tunnel through a huge tank with sharks and rays, etc.

Old Lahaina Luau

When you arrive, you can walk around the grounds and see the traditional methods of cooking the pig in the ground and also making poi. The sunset was hard to ignore though.

The Hawaiian dancers were truly impressive, the narraration is a little tourish, but this is arguably the best Luau in Maui.

Haleakala "Sunrise"

This is what we got up at 4am for? That's what you get when you wait til the last morning of your visit to make the trip, you can't wait for a definite weather forecast.
The bike services ferry you up to the top of the mountain and then you coast all the way down.

Haleakala crater is worth the drive, even if the sunrise disappoints, sort of smooth and with swirls of colors in it
