Switzerland 2011 - Day 10

Today we had clouds again. The good part about that is the trails were not crowded, and we looped up the mountainside from Mürren along the North Face Trail. We included an extra section to make a day out of it, which took us up to Rostockhütte. We had some quality time with the cows in the pastures and enjoyed a forested river canyon at the end of the day.

Troughs in the alps are filled from pipes from uphill streams, and they just runneth over
While we hiked through a couple of men and a dog were taking fence posts out of the ground and laying them in place, preparing for winter avalanches

After a steep climb, we reach the ridge trail intersection

In this area we saw a marmot walking around, but not for very long. There were tons of burrows/holes around.

Ready, set, go. Ok wait, go again. Ok this time I think it's lined up right. Go! Oh well whatever, it's good enough.

Rostockhütte, where we had some cake and drinks and contemplated overnight stays in mountain huts for future Swiss vacations. The mattress rooms upstairs are wide open, which could make for interesting sleeping for light sleepers. But when in Rome, do as the Romans... next time that is.

Down the streambed, the foliage becomes lush and more varied.

Turning down into the cool and misty canyon

Returning to the village of Gimmelwald, charming because it actually feels like (is) a real village.
