Switzerland 2011 - Day 11

Bad weather forecasting had us in this region for 3 days before we got any clear skies, so it wasn't until our departure day we were able to reach the Jungfraujoch "Top of Europe" train station. We started with a lift from Lauterbrunnen and then a short (1 hour) hike along the central ridge beteen Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald towns and caught the train up from there.

From the central ridge, you can see Lauterbrunnen in the valley below and tiny in the center of the frame up on the middle cliff top is Mürren

Bending around toward Kleine Scheidegg, the Eiger north face comes into broad view.

The Grindelwald valley, opposite side of the ridge from Lauterbrunnen.

Along the train ride through the mountain, there are two stops for viewpoints from windows.

Super bright skies and low winds made our visit surprisingly warm. The snow at the top was slush and we didn't even need jackets though we had them.

The Sphinx weather station, from below and then photos from the platform.

The circle means "no" this, so if it were a car it would be "no cars". Kind of backwards, but we got used to it. Anyway, this guy looked like Scott Bakula in the Quantum Leap machine. So "no time traveling" was my interpretation.
